Big Switch Projects was founded in 2000 with a focus on improving the environmental performance of existing commercial buildings. Reviewing and upgrading commercial buildings and major tenancies remains a core competency but today we also offer carbon management solutions, residential energy efficiency programs and run business energy efficiency programs for both commercial and industrial clients.  

For business, our core competency is in providing a one-stop-shop for the identification of sound energy-efficiency upgrade projects through to client-side project management of engineering design, tendering, contractor management and the proper commissioning of new equipment.

Since its foundation, Big Switch Projects has sought to deliver leading examples of buildings and facilities that have cut their environmental impacts in a cost-effective, measurable and financially profitable way. We were Australia’s first group set up specifically to deliver building environmental upgrades. Some of our project highlights include:

• Conducting an energy and water efficiency review of the heritage listed finger-wharf at Pier 4/5 Hickson Road Sydney. We also worked with Sydney Theatre Company to deliver a comprehensive environment program covering energy management, water management, recycling and waste management, use of materials in theatre sets and costumes, and creating community awareness
• Managing Australia’s largest energy efficiency upgrade to an existing office at PricewaterhouseCoopers’ offices at Darling Park, Sydney;
• Producing the Ten Ways to Green Your Club guide for the NSW Government and Clubs NSW;
• Project management of the architectural award-winning $2.5million Shellharbour Workers Club verandah, incorporating building-integrated photovoltaics, rainwater harvesting, a worm farm and energy efficient lighting;
• Producing an initial climate change strategy for the University of NSW.

We’re a member of the energy consultants panel of the NSW Department of Water and Energy and for the South Australian Government. We have two NABERS assessors on staff.

Big Switch Projects is a member of the Blacktown Solar City consortium and the Adelaide Solar City consortium. In Blacktown we deliver the Business Energy Efficiency Program and the home ceiling insulation package while in Adelaide we’re doing the business program, ceiling insulation and home energy audits.

We were announced Best Environmental Business in the 2009 Sydney Business Awards.
