Big Switch Projects has worked with federal, state and local governments, energy utilities, business groups, and small and large businesses. Here you’ll find a selection of case studies that show the breadth and depth of our experiences.
Our Lady of Consolation Aged Care Services
Our Lady of Consolation Aged Care Services operates a 300 bed aged
care facility at Rooty Hill in the Blacktown local government area in
western Sydney. In keeping with the values of their Christian heritage, the
organisation sought help from Big Switch Projects through the Blacktown
Solar City to better understand their energy use and greenhouse gas
emissions, as well as opportunities to reduce their environmental impact.
“We had done some preliminary work to identify energy and water
savings through the use of an Ozone system in our laundry several years
ago,” CEO Barry Wiggins said, “but we felt it was time to have another
detailed look at our environmental impact. And with the cost of energy
rising and the rebates available through the Blacktown Solar City Business
Energy Efficiency Program it made sense to take the opportunity and do
something now.”
The original buildings and operation of the site as an aged care facility
date back to the late 1950s, with subsequent building replacements
and upgrades at the five hectare site resulting in a web of multiple,
sometimes interconnected buildings today. The facility operates 365
days a year, providing both nursing home and hostel care. The centre
includes a commercial laundry and kitchen, a chapel, convent, recreation
hall, wellness centre, hairdresser, and administration area.

Smart lighting slashes energy demand by 29%

Significant opportunities identified to reduce energy and water at SA council depot
Opportunities to cut energy use by 20% and water by 30% at Tea Tree Council’s depot have been identified through a review conducted by Big Switch Projects in 2007. The delivery of these opportunities will help Council deliver its Environmental, Sustainability and Strategic Plans.
Landmark New South Wales South Coast club becomes the first in Australia to adopt green building principles
When Shellharbour Workers Club decided in 2002 that its 20-year old monolithic building needed a major facelift, Big Switch Projects was invited to manage the whole process, from running the design competition to final commissioning.
